Four Important Nutrients for Every Woman

In a perfect world, a balanced diet, with a wide variety of food products, would give us all of the nutrients we need for healthy bodies and minds. (And yes, it is important to remember that nutrients feed our mind and therefore are necessary for keeping it healthy.) But modern lifestyles, dietary “fashions” and our own changing bodies often mean that we are not getting some of the important nutrients our bodies need to function at their optimum levels.

Of course, it is just as easy to remedy in our modern world, by changing eating habits or using supplements. Here are four important nutrients that many women may be lacking, and how to make sure you get enough of them:

Vitamin B12

This is a powerhouse vitamin and a veritable fuel for our nervous systems. A vitamin B12 deficiency can actually lead to problems not only with thinking, but with walking and moving, since those activities depend on cognitive acumen. B12 is also instrumental in producing red blood cells, and a B12 deficiency can lead to anemia.

The problem arises in modern diets because B12 is found in animal products, and so many health conscious people are now following vegetarian diets. Unless you are a strict vegetarian, you can get your B12 from eggs, fish and dairy products; otherwise, you will have to make sure you take a B12 supplement, especially as you get older and the B12 you do consume is not as easily absorbed into the body.

Potassium

Potassium regulates the absorption of sodium into the body and so if you consume too little potassium, you have to be very careful of your sodium levels, or increase your intake of potassium, if you want to avoid high blood pressure.

The good news is that potassium is so easy to add to your diet. Bananas, of course, but spinach, avocadoes, salmon and white beans will all give you a healthy dose of this important nutrient. Supplements can be dangerous, since a too high level of potassium is dangerous for anyone with kidney problems or who is taking diuretics (frequently prescribed for women), since you will not be able to excrete any excess. Consult your doctor if these issues apply to you.

Co-enzyme Q10

This substance is absolutely essential for a healthy heart. CoQ10 is part of the ATP chain that powers every one of the body’s cells. But the cells that need it the most are the ones in our high energy organs: the heart, liver, kidney and pancreas. CoQ10 has been used to treat congestive heart failure: a study showed that patients who took a daily dose of CoQ10 within three days of a heart attack were less likely to experience another heart attack.

Heart disease is now the leading cause of death for women, and so this protection is really critical. Furthermore, CoQ10 works as an anti-oxidant. Anti-oxidants, which are also found in Vitamins C and E, protect the cells from free radicals. Statin drugs, popular today for reducing cholesterol, inhibit our body’s natural production of CoQ10, but we would have to consume an unhealthy amount of red meat, fish and chicken (the natural external sources) to supplement it with diet. Best to turn to supplements, but if you are on any medications, especially blood thinners, you should check with your doctor.

Choline

The B family of vitamins should be on everybody’s list of must have nutrients, and choline is an important family member because of its ability to help the body synthesize and release acetylcholine, which helps the body transfer nutrients into the brain cells, and toxins out. The problem is that choline is hard to find in foods.

Eggs are a good source, but so many of us no longer eat eggs today because of the fat and cholesterol. Moreover, women, who may be avoiding eggs the most, start to lose production of choline after menopause. Adding one egg a day to your diet will not boost your cholesterol levels significantly, but will boost your intake of choline.

Common Fluid Balance Disorders

The amount of fluid input must be more or less similar to the amount of fluid that leaves the human body. The state of normal fluid balance is otherwise called euvolemia. Our body requires water to function properly. Human beings are made up mostly of water, and to keep our bodies in the best shape, we need to replenish the fluid we lose when we undertake physiological activities (urination, sweating and respiration).

To meet the RDI, women should drink 1 to 2 liters of water a day while men should try to drink 2 to 3 liters to keep their body’s fluid balance at its best. Our food intake will contribute to roughly 0.5-1 liters of water daily while protein, carbohydrate and fat metabolism will add another 0.25-0.4 liters.

Common Fluid Balance Disorders

1) Dehydration
This occurs when the output of fluid is far greater than the intake. This will stimulate the patient to consume fluids and thus lead the patient to increase intake of water. If the patient is unable to do so, the condition will worsen.

A drop in water intake, diuretics, vomiting, diarrhea, profuse sweating, fever and excessive heat can cause dehydration. This causes the water inside our cells to move to the blood. If dehydration were to continue, the tissues of the body would begin to dry up and cause the cells to malfunction. The human brain cells are very susceptible to dehydration, and this can even lead to a coma if the condition is left unchecked.

For mild dehydration, one can simply increase the intake of water until the problem is resolved. If the patient has medium to severe dehydration, sodium and potassium needs to be replenished. Energy drinks can be taken to improve the patient’s condition in this situation. Should hospitalization be required, a fluid balance chart will be necessary to monitor the fluid input and output of the patient.

2) Overhydration
This occurs when there is an excess amount of body fluid wherein the intake exceeds the fluid output. As long as the patient’s pituitary glands, heart and kidneys function properly, this should not be a problem. However, if one or more of the mentioned organs are compromised, the will be less output produced, and in time the problem may intensify as a result. People with these problems have to keep their water and salt intake at a minimum.

Overhydration treatment will depend on the cause of the problem itself. Limiting fluid should only be done when your doctor requests you to do so. Diuretics increase the urine output and may be given by your physician if he or she sees that it is needed.

How to Assess Fluid Balance
Fluid balance can be checked through clinical assessment, reviewing fluid balance charts or through blood chemistry. Through clinical assessment, the physician will be able to observe the patient for signs of dehydration or over-hydration by checking the vital signs and conducting a physical evaluation. Aside from keeping a chart to monitor the intake and output of fluids, a doctor may decide to analyze the blood chemistry of a patient. The sodium, potassium, bicarbonate, chloride or blood/urea nitrogen levels will be checked in this case, for irregularities that may implicate the condition.

If you notice a significant deficit in your fluid output or experience signs of severe dehydration, consult your physician as soon as possible. Normal fluid balance keeps your body in the perfect working condition – be sure to replenish your fluid intake regularly to stay fit and healthy.

Avoiding Symmastia in Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation today has vastly been becoming a trend. It has been asked to be performed by women who were a bit disadvantaged when it comes to breast sizes. But then sometimes breast operation may not only focus on additional size, but reduction also.

If not abused, breasts augmentation has helped a lot in women empowerment. But then some may find the average size lacking, this often results to complications. Most complications can be remedied but there are some that may be led to their doom because of greed.

Known Breast Complications from Augmentation
There are known breast complications that may arise from either your own choice or sometimes from your own choice of doctors too.
  1. Double bubble - This complication creates a double breasts crease due to the heavy breast weight and the sagging of the skin.
  2. Capsular contracture - This happens when the implant is squeezed by the shrinking breast tissues.
  3. Bottom out - This on the other hand happens when the implants are over weighted and can’t be supported by the breast tissues.Breasts drop also from the bad positioning during the operation.
  4. Symmastia - This one too is fairly common, when the two implants from the left and the right breasts gets together and form one boob.

Symmastia and How to Avoid it
Among the four mentioned, Symmastia is something that most are alarmed and afraid of. When breasts implants touch each other, form a uni-boob, then you may have one great complication form your operation.

Symmastia is characterized by the meeting of the implants just above the collarbone getting that one boob look. But how can this be prevented?
  • Check for your doctors’ credibility. Often credible doctors are the right doctors. They are licensed, trained and well experienced. Their expertise may also be a positive point for it.
  • Know the procedure yourself. Never go uninformed.
  • Always be alert of what’s happening in your body. Know when changes come.
  • Perform the right post operative care.
But then sometimes, even good doctors may experience such phenomenon. The only way is to go for the revision surgery. This will help correct it. Now, what happens to the surgery?
  • Incisions will be done. This incision will expose the underlying tissue, muscle and the implant itself. The inspection of it all will now start.
  • When the tissue that is covering the implant has been determined, it will be cut and will be rolled back. This will enable it to fit into the pocket.
  • The tissue after will be sutured carefully. This will ensure that the implant will be in place no matter what. Muscles then will be sutured; everything will be put back in place.
  • Everything will be closed. The incisions will be sutured and you’re off for healing.
Symmastia is experienced by few in breast augmentation. Most of the time it may cause trauma. But then a little counseling might help. And be positive, it can be fixed. After some time, you will be good as new.

Menopausal Weight Gain - Symptoms, Causes and Expert Opinion

Weight gain is a common problem among women undergoing menopause. In fact, 90% of menopausal women report a certain amount of weight gain. In most cases, this increase in weight is difficult to fully prevent since it is caused by factors beyond our control. However, when the right corrective measures are not taken, a simple case of weight gain can progress to become obesity. This is evident in 30% of women aged between 50 and 59 who are obese.

Menopausal weight gain
Symptoms of menopausal weight gain

How do you know that you are gaining weight during menopause? There are several signs and symptoms that you should be on the lookout for. They include;

  1. A difficulty in controlling your weight. You will observe that despite your efforts in dieting and exercising, your weight is still on the rise. This is a sign that other biological factors as a result of menopause are at play.
  2. The body shape changes. Your thighs, buttocks and belly gain more fat and may even sag.
  3. Steady weight gain. Over a certain period of time, the body continuously gains weight at a steady rate.
  4. Increase in the amount of body fat. The percentage of fat that is in your body rises thus contributing to the increased weight.
  5. Lower metabolism. You feel lethargic and tired as a result of reduced body metabolism. The reduced metabolism also means that calories are not burned as much as before and body weight increases.
Causes of menopausal weight gain

Causes of weight gain can be divided into two main categories. These two categories are hormonal causes and other causes such as aging and lifestyle.

Hormonal causes

  1. Lower estrogen levels. Studies have shown that a decrease in the amount of estrogen in the body tends to reduce physical activity, lower metabolic rate and increase food consumption. Estrogen hormone therapy is a weight control method that is sometimes used to combat the effects of reduced estrogen.
  2. Decreased progesterone levels which lead to higher water retention in the body.
  3. Increased androgen hormone levels. As the amount of the hormone androgen increases during menopause, more fat accumulates around the belly and hips.
  4. A drop in the level of testosterone which reduces the amount of lean muscle thus lowering metabolic rate in the body. This leads to weight gain.
Basically, wild occurrences of various hormonal situations lead to an imbalance. The effect of this is that the amount of body fat in the body increases.

Other causes
  • Inactivity. As one grows older, he or she engages in less physical activity. Less fat is burned in the body leading to its accumulation.
  • Lower metabolic rate. Aging also results in a slowed down metabolism which means that the rate at which calories are burned goes down.
  • Lifestyle. Various lifestyle factors can also lead to major weight gain in older women. These factors include stress and depression, bad dietary habits, drinking alcohol in excess and use if various medications.
What experts say
Health experts have for many years been looking for a solution to the rampant weight gain during menopause. Various treatment options such as surgery, therapies and drugs have been recommended. However, it is always advisable to start with techniques that are considered safe in that they have no serious side effects. For example, one can start with a major lifestyle change; quit drinking alcohol, reduce consumption of sugary and other high calorie foods and exercise more often. In many cases, a change in lifestyle is enough to reverse the effects of menopause and become healthier.

Supplements for Women Better Health

One of the most confusing health concerns for women is what type of vitamins should they be taking daily. Everybody needs certain nutrients that our bodies just don't have the ability to make on its own. Women, especially older women need vitamins to help give their bodies the nutrients necessary to function correctly. If you are a woman you must make sure the supplements you're taking are benefiting you when it comes to a variety of things like babies, bones, fertility, fetal development, weight loss, and certain illnesses. Take a look below at some of the most important vitamin supplements you should start taking as a woman.

Black Cohosh
Black cohosh supplements can help you control hot flashes you may experience during menopause. Black Cohosh will also help you ease symptoms of PMS, induce labor, lower high blood pressure, treat arthritis, stop dryness in the vagina, stop night sweats, stop sleep issues, stop headaches, and much more. You shouldn't take no more than 40mg of this supplement daily to avoid any side effects like headaches.

Omega 3
Omega 3's have overwhelming advantages for people who take them regularly. The more omega 3 fatty acids you intake the better your body will be at avoiding health problems like high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, infertility, premature birth, osteoporosis, and alzheimer's. Omega 3 contains some great anti-inflammatory properties that can help women improve the the health of their breast, heart, bones, infertility, premature birth, and are very beneficial for menopausal females that experience menopausal issues like hot flashes. If you are pregnant taking more omega 3 fatty acids will help reduce your chances of a premature birth.

The development of your baby's brain requires the omega 3 fatty acids. If you normally suffer from PMS symptoms omega 3 fatty acids can help you avoid the pain you experience each month and stop cramping. Every woman is at some kind of risk of breast cancer and omega 3 fatty acids can help prevent breast cancer cells from forming. If you are trying to get more shine to your skin and hair take more omega 3's to hydrate the cells of your body. Infertility is can be caused by a lack of eicosanoids, which can be increased through the intake of omega 3s. Women who take omega 3's daily decrease hormonal imbalances within the body and improve blood flow to the uterus. The chances of women developing bone weakening issues like osteoporosis is much higher then men. This means women should increase their daily intake of calcium in order to improve the strength of their bones. It is advised that pre-menopausal women take at least 1,000mg daily of calcium to maintain the health of their bones.

Folate
Folate is one of the eight B vitamins that can help women in a number of ways. Women over 40 that are expecting a child should increase their folate intake to help prevent birth defects that are normally associated with pregnant women at this age. Folate will help improve your brain function and prevent age related brain issues like Alzheimer's.

Probiotics
Probiotics supplements can benefit women in more ways than one. Probiotics contain healthy bacteria necessary for women to avoid certain health problems like yeast and urinary tract infections. Taking these supplements will help you maintain a healthy balance of good and bad bacteria to improve your overall health. You can take probiotic supplements once or twice daily to improve your bowel health. Try to tak a daily dosage of at least 5 billion colony forming units of probiotics daily.

Hot Flashes Common Before Menopause

Most women expect hot flashes as a part of the "change of life", but more than half start sweating before menopause has actually begun, according to a survey.

The study and others "indicate that women start having hot flashes and night sweats, the primary symptoms of the menopause transition, before they have their final menstrual period, contrary to the perception of many clinicians", according to Ellen Gold, of the University of California, Davis School of Medicine.

Previous studies put the number of women with hot flashes at 15 or 20%, but those specifically asked about hot flashes in the past two weeks, which may be a better measure of early onset menopause symptoms than the current study, which asked, "Have you ever had a hot flash?", said Gold, who was not involved in the study.

The findings, published in the journal Menopause, shouldn't be a concern for women, but it may change how researchers look at hot flashes, according to lead author Dr Susan Reed who studies women's mid-life health at the University of Washington in Seattle.

Oestrogen mimic

Usually associated with menopause, hot flashes and night sweats occur when hormone changes cause blood vessels near the surface of the skin to open rapidly. Women with regular menstrual cycles should have enough oestrogen to stave off hot flashes, but they may have to re-evaluate that idea, Reed told Reuters Health by email.

Reed and her co-authors sent questionnaires to 18500 women between 45 and 56. About half responded. Of the 1500 who still had regular cycles and weren't taking medications such as antibiotics or hormone replacement, 55% reported having experienced a hot flash or night sweat at some point in their lives.

More than half of white, black and Native American women reported the symptoms, compared to 30% or fewer of Asian and Hispanic women. The study was funded by Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., which is developing S-Equol, a compound that may mimic oestrogen and could be a potential treatment for menopausal symptoms. Many women have hot flashes but don't find that they disrupt daily life, said Ellen Freeman, of the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine in Philadelphia.

Women who experienced hot flashes

"Note that only 22% were 'bothered', so more than half of the women who had experienced a hot flash weren't troubled by it," Freeman told Reuters Health by email. Though it wasn't their primary aim, the researchers also looked at how much soy the women reported eating. Soybeans contain weak oestrogen-like compounds, which are not as strong as oestrogen but have been linked to reduced fertility and early puberty in women.

Among white women, those with menopausal symptoms seemed more likely to eat soy regularly, while white women without symptoms were more likely to never have eaten soy. There was no relationship with soy in the other ethnic groups. Though a recent study found that eating soy doesn't alleviate hot flashes, "given the design of the study, it is possible that those women with hot flashes had increased soy intake to try to manage their hot flashes -- we don't know which came first", Reed's co-author Katherine Newton told Reuters Health.

Breast Implantation: Know What Are The Risk

For many woman, getting a boob job means looking better. They can finally fill out that top nicely. The next time they hit the beach, they can walk around with a bikini top that shows off their new and enhanced body.
However, breast implantation isn't all fun and games. If you’re not careful with the doctor you choose and if you don’t take care of yourself well enough, you’ll be faced with a variety of risks. Know the pros and cons of getting breast enhancement surgery. That way, you’re ready to face any possible outcome.
Risks Involved
While most of the women who have undergone breast implantation have been more than satisfied with outcome, there are also a number of stories wherein they’ve experienced the following complications:

1. Capsular Contracture
This is when a scar grows inside your breasts, making them look fake. But the worst part is when you feel the pain. It’s a good thing that surgeons have found a way to avoid this. You can lower the risk by asking the doctor to put the implant under the muscle.

2. Mammogram Clarity
Doctors may have a hard time viewing breast tissue during mammograms when there are implants involved. Again, putting the implants under the muscle tissue allows the surgeon to view as much as 90% of what’s inside your breasts.

3. Displacement
This is when implants move after surgery. This can be corrected, but it’s another night for you at the hospital and more money out of your pockets.

4. Leaking
Doctors use 2 types of breast implants: saline or silicone. When the implants aren’t filled to the brim. A portion folds over, causing it to chafe and leak. You’ll soon notice that one breast is significantly smaller than the other.

5. Rippling
Slight waves where the implants are placed start to appear on the surface of your skin. So, you end up wit uneven and dimply breasts.

6. Numbness
Numbness in the nipple area can be common, especially after surgery. However, doctors say that this is perfectly normal. Just don’t expect to get the same kind of sensation once you've had your breasts augmented.

7. Infection
This can be a scary thing. Breast implantation infections don’t happen too often, but if it does, your doctor should require you to go through a round of antibiotics and then have the implants removed. You can go through the surgery only after 6 months, when your body has healed properly.

How to Get Libido Back After Menopause

Women’s menstrual periods normally stop upon reaching the age of 40s to 50s. Some women find it relieving because somehow it means they can make love and enjoy intimacy without worrying about pregnancy. But truth is that menopausal women may also experience declining sex drive which may get worse year after year. In turn, they and their partners become sexually unsatisfied and the relationship may ultimately suffer. Yeah, sometimes this could lead to divorce.
Menopause Help

More Than the Physical Aspects

Menopause can bring in a lot of discomfort and health issues such as low libido. Experts assert that low sex drive is the effect of declining estrogen levels in the body. While men are relatively easier to diagnose when they have low libido, Dr. Glenn Braunstein believes that women’s sex drive is a more complicated case. It is not just about the physical factors that affect sex drives, emotional factors come into play as well. Depression, anxiety, mood swings are some of the aspects that need to be looked into in order to fully understand why menopausal women tend to lose interest in sex.

Rekindling the Fire

However, just because you've gone through the menopausal stage doesn't mean your sex life had ended too. Here are some tips that can help you put excitement into your sex life even after menopause.
  • Follow a sound diet and exercise. What you eat and what you do with your body will significantly affect your bedroom performance. Cutting down on fatty food and consuming more fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins can make you feel lighter. Exercise can help you lose weight and build lean muscles, help you build a positive self-image and feel sexier about yourself.
  • Lubricate. Vaginal dryness is a big issue among many menopausal women as they tend to lose natural lubrication during this stage. Vaginal dryness may also make penetration not only uncomfortable, but also painful. However, there are several over-the-counter lubricants that can be purchased and used to make sex easier and appealing.
  • Be game for foreplay. Foreplay is a vital part in lovemaking. It prepares the individual physically and emotionally to what lies ahead. It also builds stimulation that can excite a menopausal woman so she feels comfortable with the idea of sexual intimacy.
  • Communicate with your partner. Nonverbal cues such as hugging and kissing are good ways to assure your partner that you are still into him. You may also want to verbally talk to him about the changes in your body, how it is affecting you and your relationship with him so that both of you will know how to address issues that may be creating a gap in your sex life.

Recommendation

Do not let menopause beat your sex life. It’s true that a lot of things are happening with your body, but that doesn't mean you have to give your sex life up. Sometimes, simple changes with your habits and perspective will lead you to profound bedroom glory.

Women’s Viagra may be available by 2016

LONDON - A “women’s Viagra” that is hoped to boost flagging libido may soon be available.

The new pill, called Lybrido, uses a combination of testosterone and a Viagra-like drug in a bid to increase sexual desire and improve sexual satisfaction.

Women’s Viagra

The drug is hoped to be on sale within three years, the Daily Telegraph reported.
Viagra has proved to be an extremely profitable drug, with worldwide sales at nearly £1.5 billion (S$2.9 billion) a year.

Scientists have so far struggled to create a female version of the drug, however, because while Viagra has a physiological action on men, increasing female arousal depends as much upon psychological as physical factors.

Dutch firm Emotional Brain claims to have developed a pill that resolves this dilemma by combining a Viagra-like drug with testosterone.

The physical effect of Viagra magnifies the effect of testosterone on the brain’s pleasure centres, and the pill should be taken three and a half hours before sex to have an effect.

The results of a trial involving more than 200 women have not yet been published, although Emotional Brain founder Adriaan Tuiten describes them as “very, very promising”.

A larger trial is planned and it is hoped that the drug will be on the market in Europe and the United States at the end of 2016.

Dr Tuiten claims that the pills enable women to make love more often and improved their chances of reaching orgasm.

He believes that they will be most popular with long-married women who tend to experience a drastic decline in sexual desire over time.

Dr Andrew Goldstein, a US expert in female sexual health, told the New York Times that drug companies such as Emotional Brain will be under pressure to prove they are not turning women into nymphomaniacs.
There are also fears that Lybrido could put women under pressure to perform, while sceptics of the drug point to the myriad of cultural factors that have a bearing on libido.

Dr Tuiten says that up to 43 per cent of women suffer from a low sex drive at some point in their lives and that, far from turning women into sex maniacs, the drug will simply raise a low libido to normal levels.

Dr Mike Wyllie, one of the team of scientists that discovered and developed the male impotence drug Viagra, described Lybrido as “an interesting concept”. AGENCIES

What Is The Maca Root And How Can It Help Your Libido?

Peru, it has been gaining popularity especially in the last three decades when it's properties were rediscovered and touted throughout the world. Let's take a look at the maca root, what it is, what it can do for you, and why you should be taking it.

What Is The Maca Root?

The maca root is a member of the same vegetable family that radishes and turnips belong to, and is found throughout the Andes Mountains in Peru in the higher elevations. The majority of Peruvians eat the maca root like any other vegetable, and normally cook it before they eat it. However, some medical practitioners in Peru and around the world make the maca root into a powder for consumption as a supplement. Since the root itself grows higher up in the mountains, around the 3800-4400 meters above sea level mark, it is a very hearty root that is found everywhere. When picked, the root can be eaten immediately, cooked, or dried for later use. Dried maca root  can be kept for several years, making it a perfect supplement.

What Is The Maca Root Used For?

Throughout Peru, the maca root has been used for many different reasons throughout history. The main reason that it is consumed is for it's nutritional value. In Peru, the maca root is considered a delicacy when it is roasted in a pit, which is called huatia. Some Peruvians also mash the root and boil it into a porridge that is thick and sweet. There are also hundreds of different recipes for soups and stews with the maca root as the main ingredient. Aside from cooking the maca root, it can also be baked into breads, pancakes, or even whole desert cakes. Some breweries in Peru also make maca root beet and it's popularity has started to grow both as a food, and a liquor, in all countries around the world.

On top of it's food value, the maca root is known throughout the world for it's health properties as well. The maca root has been shown to provide energy to those that eat it or take it in powder form. Peruvian warriors also used to eat the root right before a battle as it helps to increase your strength as well. It has also long been renown as both a stamina boost and an aphrodisiac for both men and women. It is this reason that millions of people around the world take the maca root to help with sexual dysfunction as well as problems with low libidos.

Why Should You Be Taking Maca Root?

As we just mentioned, the maca root has several different advantages when consumed in any way. Since the maca root is a natural food, it is also generally considered safe to eat or ingest through supplements as well, (of course if you are on any type of prescription medication, you should always check with your doctor before taking any new supplement). Along with it's energy benefits, the boost to strength and stamina, the overall main benefit that should matter to women out there is the libido enhancing qualities of the maca root.

Millions of women around the world suffer from low libidos and sexual dysfunction, which can cause undue stress on any relationship. The maca root can help to boost your libido and help to improve your stamina and energy in bed as well. Aside from the obvious benefits of boosting anyone's libido, the boost to your ego can also help you feel even better about yourself as well. We all know that when we feel sexy and desired, we also feel better about ourselves inside and out. If you haven't tried any form of the maca root, this is the time. It can help in so many different areas, especially in boosting a woman's libido and can help increase your drive and make you and your spouse even happier.

Sharon Amanpour wrote this article about the history of the maca root and how it helps increase libido.

Say Goodbye To Cellulite Forever

You are familiar with the adage “you don’t get out of this life alive”, but for most woman they might add “and cellulite-free.” Incessant complaints about unruly humps and bumps around thigh area are constant predicament even among teens to women nearing in their golden years. According to American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, almost 90% of all women regardless of race are prone to cellulite.

Get Rid Of Cellulite

The intensity of the demand to fight or least curb cellulite overwhelmed mall shelves with anti-cellulite products from temporary relief such as caffeine infused creams to more effective no surgery fat processes like laser, massage and suction. Introducing Cellulaze, an anti-cellulite laser treatment approved by Food and Drug Administration. Unlike other fat treatments that target the outer layer of our skin, Cellulaze goes underneath to fix the unsightly humps and bumps of the skin. Let’s us discuss the basics of the on the dreaded skin condition.

Cottage Cheese Explained

Cellulite is undiscriminating skin condition. Being slim does not exempt you being cellulite-free. So whether you are fat or thin, jiggly or muscled, you are a perfect target of cellulite. The fight for cellulite is synonymously battling with genetics, hormonal factors, diet, lifestyle and age. Sad to say women are more prone to those pesky undulations and indentations due to female skin architecture says NYC dermatologist, Dr.Schweiger. Men’s connective tissue is diagonal and criss-crossed, laid smoothly and continuous. While women’s connective tissue lies vertical to the skin and during the start of puberty, wherethe estrogen levels increases and skin elasticity weakens and the fat chambers (septae) starts to develop due to the connective tissue structure causing the fat to be pushed upwards while at the same time the fibrous bands pull the skin downwards.

Introducing the New Technique

Before, having cellulites means that you have to deal with them forever, but not anymore and this is what the buzz about Cellulaze. A surgeon will administer a local anesthesia and threads a laser fiber with the help of a cannula that is as thin as the pencil lead and trims the fat chambers (septae) melts them and heats the skin from the inside out and this encourages the growth of collagen and elastin.

The laser fiber turned into 90 degrees is effective enough to break and vaporize  stubborn septae. The laser fiber will then be turned toward skin surface wherein the heat will thicken the skin. The moment those septae were severed, there is no chance for them to grown back making you totally cellulite-free. The laser heat is said to promote collagen and elastin growth will make your skin 29% more elastic.

The key to get rid of cellulite successfully is to treat the problem at the root just like what Cellulaze does. With minimal downtime, patients’ needs not to avail leave from work since they can go back to work the next day as observed with patients who undergone Celulaze. How To Deal With Skin Irritations

Your skin can be a sensitive area of your body, and there are plenty of things that could cause it to become irritated. For example, touching a poisonous plant could cause a rash, eating a food you’re allergic to could cause hives and even using the wrong type of soap could dry out your skin.

Instead of succumbing to the skin irritation that ails you, it’s important to know the most common skin irritations and how to successfully deal with them.

skin irritations

Eczema

If you have a severely dry patch of skin, it is eczema. Eczema is not contagious and tends to form on the feet, hands, elbows and knees, and these flare ups tend to come and go. Most cases of eczema flare up due to stress, allergens and climate changes, and the best way to treat eczema is through the use of topical creams.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a non-contagious skin disease that affects many people. Dry patches of skin form on the body and become dark red or even silver and tend to look like scales. Psoriasis can be mild to severe, and even with treatment, those that suffer from psoriasis tend to suffer from the disease for their entire life.

If you have psoriasis, your doctor will most likely prescribe medications that you apply directly to the skin as well as an oral medication or injection.

Shingles

Shingles is a contagious and painful skin irritation that affects many people. It generally starts with tingling or burning skin and is followed by small red dots that eventually turn into painful blisters.

Shingles can be easily treated with the use of steroids, antiviral medications and topical creams, and they will generally go away within two weeks, however the tingling feeling may last for the rest of your life. If you think that you may have shingles, it’s important to visit your doctor right away.

Hives

Most people get hives after eating or touching something that they’re allergic to. Hives look like giant red welts on the body and often itch or burn. Hives can be small in size or they can combine with other hives to make larger patches.

In order to cure hives, you will want to visit your doctor for a medicated cream or prescribed antihistamine to alleviate the itch and rash. You will also want to avoid eating or touching whatever it was that might have caused the hives in the first place to keep it from happening again.

Rosacea

If you notice that your face tends to become flushed and stays that way for a significant period of time, you probably suffer from rosacea. Rosacea tends to form around the eyes, cheeks and nose and can often lead to pimples, thick skin and visible blood vessels. Rosacea can be caused by extreme heat or stress, and while flare-ups may go away on his or her own, the only true treatment for rosacea involves dermabrasion and laser therapy.

Plastic Surgery For Breast And Abdominal Wall Reconstruction

Whether you've had a child or you just want to improve the look of your body, plastic surgery is able to do just about anything to help you out. Nothing improves your confidence like the way your body looks, and there is some things exercise and proper diet just is not able to do for you. After giving birth, you are probably going to find your breasts reduce in size (especially after you have finished breast feeding) and your abdominal wall has lost its structure. Due to this, you may feel distraught from wanting to head out to the beach or wearing the clothes you use to before becoming pregnant. Thankfully, you don't have to live with this as abdominal wall reconstruction and breast augmentations allow you to live happily with your body and improve upon the overall figure you wish to present to other people.
Abdominal Wall Reconstruction

Abdominal Wall Reconstruction

After giving birth, you are going to probably have added skin hanging from your stomach due to stretching. This is natural, and although many women feel ashamed of this, you don't need to any longer. With the abdominal wall reconstruction surgery you are able to have the added skin removed and even stretch marks reduced in appearance so you no longer have to worry about your body or what it looks like when you go out and wear a swimsuit or something similar. You are also able to remove fat from the abdominal region, should you desire, in order to lose weight that you just can't seem to shed.

Breast Augmentation

If you are going to have your abdominal call corrected and returned back to its pre-birth look and you are not happy with the look of your breasts, you are able to have a breast augmentation done at the same time. In fact, it is possible for the plastic surgeon to go up through the belly button and insert the breast implants, so you don't have any added scars. The most direct method is through the armpit, although there is a slight scar through this practice. If you want to have the least amount of pain and scaring possible, going up through the belly button might be your best bet, although you need to discuss the plans over with your doctor in order to make sure it is going to work out well and result in the very best look for you, in order to make you feel confident again.

If you want to improve your look and gain valuable confidence, consider breast augmentation and the reconstruction of your abdominal wall.

This is actually quite achievable if only you can follow a healthy lifestyle; take healthy food, exercise regularly, sleep well and overall lead a happy as well as stress free life. Health Tips For Pregnant Women

No mother can deny the fact that pregnancy puts a lot of stress on the body. The average woman puts on about 30 pounds in 9 months of her pregnancy. As a result, she goes through a considerable postural change. You may find it difficult to carry that extra weight all the time. You may feel tired even when you do not do any work all day long. Given below are a few tips from expert osteopath for pregnant women.

Workout sessions

During pregnancy, you might exercise on a regular basis. However, it is important for you to set your routine keeping the condition of your body in mind. This means you should not have too many workout sessions; otherwise, it may cause harm to the infant. According to experts, 3-4 workout sessions on a weekly basis are enough. The duration of each workout should be 30 minutes. However, you should reduce the duration to 10 minutes in your 3rd trimester.

 Types of Exercises

Cardio exercises are recommended for pregnant women; however, you should adopt those exercises that can help you control your heartbeat to 145bpm. For this purpose, you should consider squats and lunges (do not use weights). Aside from these, brisk-walking and swimming are also good exercises. In the last trimester, swimming is more helpful as water can support your body and removes pressure from your tired muscles. Other good exercises include cycling and aerobics.

Things to avoid

You should not take part in sports that require a lot of physical or mental effort, such as football or squash. In the same way, holding a stretch for more than 5 to 6 seconds is not recommended when you are warming up. If you do not follow this advice and hold your stretch for more than 6 seconds, it may make your body emit a hormone called “relax”. Premature release of this hormone can cause damage to the areas that surround your joints. In addition, do not overexert yourself, meaning you must avoid lifting heavy things.

Dietary tips

In order to keep your baby and yourself healthy, you should follow a well-balanced diet. According to doctors, women’s body needs around 2500 calories on a daily basis during pregnancy. But it does not mean you should start eating twice as much as you did before pregnancy. The right way is to eat different things to get the required amount of calories. For example, you should eat wheat, whole grains, vegetable, fruits, poultry and dairy products.

Meet an Osteopath

Aside from keeping tabs on the postural changes you are going through, you need to get in touch with an experienced osteopath as soon as you can. The osteopath will tell you the right way to do exercises.
In sum, pregnancy involves backaches, exhaustion, mood swings and other problems. You should be ready to deal with all these problems. Meeting an osteopath and following the techniques and exercises prescribed by him is a good idea.

Chris blogs about osteopathy. With a vast experience as an osteopath he can diagnose and treat multiple conditions and also advise exercises during pregnancy.

What is Menopause: Facts, Causes And Symptoms

Menopause Facts

Menopause marks the end of the reproductive phase of a woman’s life. When a woman ages, her body experiences many changes and a lot of them are triggered by the hormonal changes brought on by menopause the end of the menstrual cycle. While many may regard as a blessing, it is important to understand how it affects the body.

What triggers menopause?

With the arrival of the mid-forties, the ovaries reduce the production of the sex hormones, namely progesterone and estrogen. Apart from impacting a woman’s health and certain physical aspects, these hormones are collectively responsible for
  1. Ovulation - the process by which an egg is released by the ovaries into the fallopian tubes.
  2. Normal development and function of the uterus
  3. Growth of breasts
  4. Preparation of the lining of the uterus to accept the fertilized egg.

The most common age for menopause:

Ages between 40 up to 60 are considered normal for the onset of menopause in the Western World. Women typically get their last period at the age of 51 (average estimated). Changes in the menstrual cycle marking the end of the fertility period occurring earlier than 45 years of age is referred to as “early menopause” whereas later than 55 years is considered “late menopause”.

Premature menopause:

It so happens at times that menopause occurs before the age of 40. Such cases are regarded as falling under “premature menopause” and are often the result of autoimmune disorders, genetics or medical procedures such at chemotherapy or removal of ovaries.

Another reason for early menopause is “premature ovarian failure”. For reasons not yet known, this happens when the ovaries halt the production of eggs thus triggering changes in the hormone profile. This is not necessarily a permanent situation though, unlike premature menopause.

Symptoms of menopause:

As per the experts, one year without your period confirms the arrival of menopause. The initial phase when menopause kicks in, known as “peri-menopause”, may persist for 3 to 5 years when estrogen levels start dipping.

You may start experiencing the symptoms well before that one-year period begins. Mentioned below is a list of a few symptoms of menopause.
  • Irregular periods – Not every woman faces the same symptoms but this is generally the first sign. Your   period may become irregular or you might end up skipping over them for months at time.
  • Hot flashes
  • Insomnia
  • Fatigue
  • Depression and other mood swings
  • Joint or muscle ache
  • Altered libido
  • Dry or itchy vagina
When the body has to do away with estrogen, it becomes susceptible to a number of health risks including osteoporosis and heart disease. But there is no need to panic- understanding menopause is the key to coping with it.

Five Ideas for Women Good Health

Women today are busier than ever, and they often do not have the time to spend hours at the gym. Fortunately, there are a number of things that women can do to stay healthy and in shape. Below are five keeping fit ideas for women:

Walk More

Women HealthThis is perhaps one of the simplest things that women can do to stay in shape. Walking is a great exercise because it does not require any equipment, and it can be done almost anywhere at any time. If a woman lives close to her job, then she should consider walking a couple of times out of the week. Additionally, women should consider parking further away from the building and using the stairs.

Perform Resistance Exercises

Resistance training is something that many people forget to include in their routine. However, performing resistance exercises is one of the key things that women can do to keep themselves fit. Resistance training helps reduce body fat and build lean muscle. It also helps boost metabolism. Women should perform resistance training at least twice a week. They should make sure that they perform exercises that work the entire body.

Eat Plenty of Fruits and Vegetables

Diet plays a very important role in keeping one fit. That is why women need to make sure that they are eating healthy. Women should get between three and five servings of vegetables and fruits per day. Vegetables and fruits are relatively low in calories, and they are also filling. Furthermore, vegetables and fruits are filled with essential nutrients.

Play With The Children

Playing with children is perhaps one of the simplest things that women can do to stay fit. If a woman plays with her kids for 30 minutes, then she could burn over 130 calories. Playing tag, basketball and hiking are some activities that women can do with their children. Those activities will not only help a woman stay fit, but they will help her bond with her children.

Get Plenty Of Sleep

Many women are not getting enough sleep. Studies have shown that people who get less than six hours of sleep per night are more likely to be obese. Researchers have found that sleep-deprived people are more likely to overeat and make unhealthy food choices. Sleep-deprivation causes ghrelin levels to increase. Ghrelin is a hormone that stimulates appetite. Sleep-deprived people also have a tendency to have slower metabolism.

Additionally, if a woman does not get enough sleep at night, then she will not have the energy to exercise. That is why women need to make sure that they get at least seven hours of sleep at night.

Staying fit is not as challenging as many women think. Walking, playing with the children and performing resistance exercises will help a woman stay in shape. Additionally, women need to make sure that they are eating right and getting plenty of sleep.

Look out some workout videos for women online for a great range of exercises to get in shape.

Breast Enhancement - Common Fears Regarding Breast Enhancement

Breast enhancements are among the most popular cosmetic surgery and anti aging procedures. Each year the number of these operations increases, with girls as young as 16 years old having their breasts enlarged. Since the breasts are a primary signifier of womanhood, it is easy to see why making them bigger would make women feel better about themselves. The surgery makes them feel like they have gotten closer to looking the way they think women are supposed to look.

breast enhancement

Medical and technological advances have made breast augmentations more attainable than they ever were before. New kinds of silicone look indistinguishable from real breast tissue. Women who opt for saline implants can forgo scars entirely. The empty bags are rolled up, inserted through an incision inside the belly button and snaked up through the torso. Once the bags are in place, they are unfolded and filled with saline.
An unfortunate consequence of the relative ease of performing breast augmentations is the increase in unqualified and unlicensed surgeons who are operating on women. A doctor does not have to have been certified by any governing or medical organization to call himself a plastic surgeon. To avoid this, a woman who is considering surgery should inquire as to whether the aesthetic clinic is board certified. She should avoid doctors who do not carry this credential.

Today's celebrity-oriented culture has contributed to a growing awareness of plastic surgery. It has become very easy to tell when someone has had a bad breast augmentation. The implants may have been lazily placed on top of the chest muscles instead of underneath them. Thin women whose implants are too big for their frames have obvious spherical outlines over their rib cages. A woman can avoid looking like this by preparing a list of questions and concerns for her surgeon. If possible, she should find pictures of women whose chests look the way she wants hers to look. Sometimes it is easier to show by example than to describe body parts in words. She should also ask to see before and after pictures of the surgeon's past patients.

There are some common red flags that women should know about before committing to a surgeon. A doctor whose prices seem too good to be true should not be trusted; good breast enhancements are worth their high price tags. Women should also avoid surgeons who push to enhance breasts by more than two-cup sizes.
